This has been a morning. Between going to see the balloons (you can still go tomorrow morning if you live around here) and trying to get my house in order (why is flushing the toilet so boring for kids? I don’t get it) I almost forgot to post.
Here are some things I’ve been thinking about while scrubbing the floor.
1. I want to go to a soiree. Like the kind in my favorite movie Thoroughly Modern Millie, where people walk around in fancy fringed dressed and talk about politics and fashion and listen to Carol Channing sing. Do people have soirees around here? Where are they? How does one get invited?
2. Why don’t I own a cabin? I wish I owned a cabin and we rented it out for fabulous writing retreats and my kids would play outside and climb trees and there would be cookouts and water fights and deep thoughts and scenes from movies. I hope one day I can own a peaceful cabin-type thing.
3. Poor Tom.
4. I wonder why we don’t have more fourth of July traditions. We used to. I should make some up.
5. I forgot to add a personal writing assignment to my website.
6. Oh. I forgot to blog on TUW.
7. Can I do a marathon next week? I think I can. I’m going to start a new NEW book and I’m going to write 2000 words a day and not second guess myself for just a week. Then I can stop and decide if it’s worth it to keep going.
8. I hope I finish this memoir today. I’ve been reading a lot of memoirs for my upcoming class in the fall. I know I said I was going to read a bunch of YA/MG, and I still plan to but right now I’m on a memoir kick. So far I’ve read PERSEPOLIS, NIGHT, DRESS YOUR FAMILY IN CORDUROY AND JEANS. I’m working on THE LIAR’S CLUB and GRIEF OBSERVED. If anyone wants to join me, I’ll send you my list. I am learning a lot about writing. So much. And if you have any memoirs you’ve loved, let me know.
9. We need to fix up this blog/website. Kick off Chris because we miss him but he’s no longer blogging with us, update the links and add more search friendly options. We also need to do some more market and author interviews. Are there things you’d like to see on this site?
10. I wonder why my boys never flush the toilet.
I think that’s all. I am excited to marathon next week. Tell your writer friends and lets see how many people we can get to join the fun. Maybe we can get some kind of record, send out some prizes for goals, email each other encouragement and chocolate, etc. etc.

Throwing Up Words 
I’m up for a marathon. I’ll have to decide a crazy number of pages I want to get revised everyday. I need to host a soiree. I’m not sure everyone would know to wear fridged dresses. I think I’d have to put that on the invitation. And it’s not just boys who put flushing last on their To Do lists. Little girls have issues with it, too. But what IS the problem? If you figure it out, let me know.
Fridged dresses are all the rage, Erin. Of course they’d wear them. And it is weird–the toilet thing. I think they worry it’s going to overflow and it will when they put in an entire roll of toilet paper.
I want to do some sort of marathon, but I haven’t figured out the timing yet. I’m honestly barely back to the point where I can sit at a computer again. This week and next are both busy, so I might do a day and a half this week and then do more next week when I can. I do have goals, though: revise my first 2,500 pages of Lawnmower, finish Bridge Bread (or Pearled or whatever it gets named) and write some more on my Africa/San Diego story that keeps morphing and changing characters.
The toilet thing? They grow out of it. Eventually. But I’m still waiting on a couple of mine to get the idea.
I’ve been so busy too, Becca. Crazy. That’s why I’m excited for this marathon. To jump back in. And are you really going to revise 2500 pages 🙂
I am surprised that I get my social celebrity news from Ann Dee, but there it is. I had no idea about Tom and Katie. Also, I’d love to do the marathon thing, but I don’t know if next week will work for me. I’ll be at Tahoe–camping, and not in a cabin that I should own.
However, for all you guys, I’ll take an extra dunk in the peppermint-cold waters.
JEALOUS! take five dunks for me and how could you not hear about TomKat? This was breaking news.
2. I have cabin access and have discussed a writing retreat with Erin Shakespear. You are invited! Bring Ally down with you. I’ll have Robbie make some more caramel apples.
8. David Sedaris is hilarious! Have you read A Girl Named Zippy? It didn’t blow my mind, but it was fun and happy, which is a nice change of pace for a memoir.
10. My little girl won’t flush the toilet because her preschool teacher dyed the toilet water green on St. Patrick’s Day and now she’s afraid of leprechauns. True story.
2. Let’s do it! I would love to come and I’ll make Ally come and yes to the apples. That would be so fun.
8. Everyone keeps telling me about Zippy but I haven’t read it yet. I’ll put it next on my list.
10. That is the best story. But also scary. What did the teacher tell them? I can’t imagine why that seemed like a good idea.
