A special opportunity for Utah authors!

On August 2, 2014 we have an editor and on August 30, 2014 an agent coming to a special Sundance Lodge. We have space only for about 12 people left for each event, but you can respond now and reserve your spot. The cost is $150 and includes 3 gourmet meals by Chef Extraordinaire Jane Hughes, programming for the day, a private consult with the agent or editor and awesome networking opportunities!

Details below:

August 2, 2014, Stacy Whitman of Tu Books (an imprint of Lee and Low) will be coming for a one-day Saturday retreat. Along with a ten-page personal critique in private for 15-20 minutes, you will get a gorgeous view in a Sundance mansion, along with 3 meals. Stacy will give a talk right after breakfast about the state of the publishing industry and what she is specifically looking for. Then critiques will begin. We will have other programming with published authors (Marion Jensen of Almost Super is confirmed–still waiting on others) and critiques going on throughout the day. We’ll have a break for lunch, and then go to dinner.

Stacy can give great critiques for middle grade, young adult, and adult fiction. She specializes in fantasy and science fiction and worked for a time for TOR books. Stacy was an editor at Wizards of the Coast before she created her own imprint at Lee and Low. She is now looking specifically for books with diverse protagonists, but she is a great critiquer and will be able to give good advice to anyone!

This is a special chance for you to get to meet Stacy in a laid back way. Networking is one of the most important tools we authors have, and although big conferences are great at getting a lot of information out to you, this is more in depth with one person. The critiques are one selling point, but getting to know Stacy is something you will not regret!

August 30, 2014, Jodell Sadler, a children’s agent who specializes in picture books will be coming for another one-day Saturday retreat. She will look at your complete picture book manuscript and spend 15-20 minutes with you personally. The location will be a Sundance mansion and the views are fabulous. Jodell will give a talk to introduce herself and tell us about the picture book industry opportunities that are opening up now as the picture book slump is over. She’ll critique around our meals, and we’ll have programming for those not being critiqued.

As with Stacy, this is a great chance to meet an agent who is looking to acquire new clients in a casual way that will allow you both to get to know each other better. It’s also a great chance to network with other authors and aspiring authors. In addition, there are very few agents who are actively acquiring picture books and few conferences that will specialize in picture books, so don’t miss this chance!
